The Management Trainee (MT) Program is specifically designed to develop leaders that will drive the future of our organization.  This program begins with a two week orientation at our corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas.  During this time, MTs receive a company overview, interact with company leaders, and develop skills for a successful career.  Additional training will vary by department.  

 

The Operations Management Trainee position is a leadership role at BNSF Railway.  These individuals lead a diverse workgroup to safely and efficiently accomplish work assignments and goals that are in line with the company's vision.

 

Management Trainees have an opportunity to proactively contribute to focusing on helping ensure high network availability and on time train performance by learning areas of support, planning, engineering and implementation across our network system

The Central Repair Facility (CRF) is an organization within Telecom that configures, calibrates, and repairs various electronic devices and manages the telecom sparing and project inventory for more than 16 technology platforms.  This aids in the continued reliability and availability of the network that supports BNSF Operations across the system.

 

Relocation assistance may be provided to those who are moving more than 50 driving miles from their permanent residence.

 

Work Location: Texas or Kansas 

Anticipated Start Date: January, June or September 2019

Salary Range: $68,500

RELOCATION WILL BE REQUIRED.

 

A candidate must be willing to be relocated to any location across the BNSF system for the training program. Once training has been completed, candidates will likely be relocated again to an assigned, permanent location. Please refer to BNSF’s operating system at www.bnsf.com (see System Map). An ideal candidate should be very flexible regarding location.

 

TRAINING

 

The Management Trainee program begins with a fast-paced, intensive training program that includes: 

  • Two (2) weeks orientation conducted at our company headquarters in Fort Worth, TX
  • Two to three (2-3) weeks’ technical (e.g. rules, safety) and personnel training conducted at our Technical Training Center (TTC) in Overland Park, KS
  • Associated on-the-job field training conducted at assigned location 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The training program will include:

 

  • Technical Training both in the field and at the Technical Training Center (TCC) in Overland Park, KS.
  • Develop railroad knowledge to understand operations focused on engineering department, including interacting with other operations departments.
  • Lead a diverse workgroup to safely and efficiently accomplish work assignments and goals
  • Maintain a culture of safety; lead discussions on how to approach others, relay information about safety, and ways to minimize risk.
  • Assist Foremen and Technicians with personnel paperwork, vacation requests, and training/development plans.
  • Coordinate with customers, providing timely information ensuring their service needs and expectations are understood and met.
  • Identify processes and procedures that improve efficiencies, while maintaining quality of service.
  • Day-to-day and short-range planning, budgeting, discipline, auditing and adhering to safety programs.
  • Provide periodic updates to CRF Manager to ensure daily plan requirements are met,
  • Ensure compliance and application of company policies, i.e. BNSF's Equal Employment Policy, applicable safety rules, scheduled agreements, FRA standards and government regulations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Primarily indoors in a Repair Facility environment, with some field and outdoor work.
  • Normal office hours, Monday through Friday 7am-4pm, with 24X7 on-call support as required.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT:

  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Must hold a valid Driver’s License.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • I have a 2.70 or higher cumulative GPA with a degree in Engineering or Construction Management OR a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA with a non-Engineering degree. 
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Construction Management or an Engineering program from accredited university to be completed prior to hire OR have obtained a degree within the past three (3) years.
  • Less than three (3) years of work experience in a professional work environment. When calculating work experience, EXCLUDE internships or positions held while in high school or college.
  • Authorization to work in the US without Company sponsorship now AND in the future.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to relocate within the BNSF Railway operating system to start and/or upon career progression and/or business need.
  • General understanding of electronics theory, radio frequency, and local area networks.
  • Experience with personal computers and knowledge Windows Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Adobe software.
  • Able to visually distinguish among red, blue, yellow and lunar (clear light) and able to see at night.
  • Strong drive for results as well as superior communications and teamwork skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering OR any other Technical/Engineering related degree.
  • Federal Communications Commission (FCC) License
  • Proven leadership experience and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in Telecommunications or Cellular related environment.
