College Recruiting

You’re in college working toward your degree or maybe you just earned your degree. Congratulations! We’ve been waiting for you. We have a Management Trainee Program as well as a Summer Internship Program designed to get you ready for that just-right job.

The Summer Internship Program, which is paid, provides you an opportunity to participate in group events and projects, and experience first-hand what it is like to be a full-time BNSF employee. These may be summer jobs, but you will be given real-life, impactful assignments that are not only rewarding, they’ll put your skills and education into practice. The objective of the program is to attract and develop students who will return to BNSF full-time following graduation as Management Trainees.

The Management Trainee (MT) Program is specifically designed to develop leaders that will drive the future of our organization. With hard work, the desire to learn, and the ability to develop relationships, career opportunities are endless. Our MT Program is a paid full-time program designed specifically to shape the future leaders of our company. This program is designed for recent graduates with less than three years of professional work experience.

When you begin your career with BNSF as a Management Trainee, you’ll receive an overview of our railroad and our industry during an orientation at our Fort Worth, Texas headquarters. The next phase depends on whether you’ll be moving into a corporate environment or Operations. Corporate departments that regularly recruit Management Trainees include Accounting/Finance, Corporate Audit, Marketing, Human Resources, and Technology Services. Once initial training and orientation are complete, Management Trainees move into their respective departments for on-the-job training. Those who choose Operations – Engineering, Mechanical and Transportation functions – will spend time at our Technical Training Center learning the ins and outs of railroading and then continue on to their field assignment; it’s intense, but the experience will prepare you for an exciting and rewarding career at BNSF.
